Convenience Store Chain Settles for $1 Million
Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida Office of Financial Regulation (OFR) announces a settlement with Circle K Stores, Inc., following a charge that the company provided check-cashing services without a Florida license between January 1, 2009, and February 14, 2014. The settlement resulted in a $1 million fine, and Circle K applying for and receiving a Florida license to provide check-cashing services.
“The Florida Office of Financial Regulation works diligently to protect consumers, ensuring that entities operating in Florida’s financial services arena are properly licensed to do business,” said Commissioner Drew J. Breakspear.
Section 560.303, Florida Statutes, requires a business engaging in cashing payment instruments to be licensed as a money services business with the Florida Office of Financial Regulation.
