PURPOSE

The Florida Legislature created during the 1998 session Section 288.99, F.S., the Certified Capital Company Act. The primary purpose of the act is to stimulate a substantial increase in venture capital investments in the state by providing an incentive for insurance companies to invest in certified capital companies in the state which, in turn will make investments in new businesses or in expanding businesses. The increase in investment capital flowing into new or expanding businesses is intended to contribute to employment growth, create jobs which exceed the average wages for the county in which the jobs are created, and expand or diversify the economic base of the state. The application deadline for certification as a certified capital company was December 1, 1998.
