Making A Public Records Request

It is the policy of the State of Florida that all state, county and municipal records are open for personal inspection and copying by any person. However, please be aware that some public records, or portions thereof, are made confidential by statute. Due to the nature of the Office's financial regulatory responsibilities, many of the Office's records contain confidential information that cannot be made available for public inspection or copying.

If the records you have requested contain confidential information, the records will be provided with the confidential information redacted. If an entire record is confidential it will not be produced, and the Office will notify you regarding the confidentiality of the requested records.

You can make a public records request in person, by phone, fax, e-mail, or regular mail. Typical costs include $.15 per page for requests in excess of 50 pages, and a service charge based on staff labor costs necessary to research, locate and complete any redactions. Larger requests are generally provided electronically or on CD, which reduces the cost for paper copies.

For media members requesting public records, please contact the Office of Communications.

Under Florida law, e-mail addresses are public records. If you do not want your e-mail address released in response to a public records request, do not send electronic mail to the Office. Instead, contact this office by phone or in writing. Communications with this office, regardless of the form or means of transmission, are subject to disclosure under Florida's public records law.
